The test provides a measure for global response of musculoskeletal systems of the lower limbs as well as information regarding functional capacity and agility. Results entail the distance walked, the walking velocity and functional gait parameters.

Description

The 15 Seconds Treadmill Walk test is a sub-maximal walk test over a period of 15 seconds. It involves an individual walking on a treadmill. The speed and inclination can be adjusted to adhere to different test purposes. For step test at different speeds or inclinations, the test can be repeated. Gait characteristics are assessed for the entire period. The goal is to perform a normal walking, similar to real life conditions.

Test Preparation

Start the treadmill and adjust a constant speed and inclination

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes

Use usual walking aids if applicable (cane, walker, crutches, etc.)

Start the treadmill and walk steady

Continue walking on START
Walk at your normal speed without stumbling
Do not run

Walk Period

Keep walking for 15 seconds
Do not talk and focus on walking

Stop

Listen to the countdown while keeping walking
Continue walking on STOP
The test is completed
Stop the treadmill
