Abstract

Investigate the use of biomechanical outcome parameters, useable in a clinical setting, as a sensitive measure to evaluate total knees.

Moticon's Summary

The aim of this study was to investigate the usability of biomechanical parameters as a measure to evaluate the outcome of a total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The study involved three cohorts: participants with no acute knee injury, participants prior to a TKA surgery and participants who underwent TKA surgery. Biomechanical parameters and specifically symmetry ratios were obtained using Moticon sensor insoles. Participants were evaluated with the knee society scoring system and completed timed up and go tests as well as a bilateral stand tests. Results revealed that symmetry ratios showed little variation between groups. Other outcome measures indicated that function was still not normal following TKA surgery.
