Gait analysis with ReGo to optimize rehabilitation outcomes

Topics in this article

Gait analysis is a valuable tool for studying human locomotion, used in medical and clinical applications to diagnose conditions, plan interventions, design prosthetic and orthotic devices, and track rehabilitation progress to optimize therapy and patient outcomes.

The use of ReGo enables unbiased measurements, providing not only force and pressure parameters but also spatio-temporal parameters such as stride length.

One of the main outcome parameters of the ReGo Free Distance Walk and Return Test is the gait line (Fig-1, left). The gait line shows how the center of pressure (COP) travels over the foot during stance phases. In this example, the right gait line is considerably shorter than the left due to an injury to the right ankle, resulting in the patient limping.

This also results in lower values for the mean and maximum force on the right leg (Fig-1, middle). Last but not least, this also results in changes to the gait phases: As the left leg is loaded longer and more heavily, the stance time on the left lasts longer, while the swing time on the right decreases in duration. The double support time shows no differences between the right and left.

These are just a few of the many ReGo parameters that allow an objective comparison during the course of rehabilitation. Fill out the form on the right to receive a PDF document which contains a complete parameter list and parameter descriptions. The document also contains the test description and additional information as indicated in the ReGo Free Distance Walk and Return article.
