Speed Test

Foot Tapping

The test provides quantitative assessment of the cyclic speed and the coordination of the lower body. A good level of the complex stress form of speed is directly associated with successful mastery of diverse game situations in which fast movements are required. It is therefore considered an essential component of sport-specific performance. Quantitative evaluation of the speed of movement is used to identify deficits within the neuromuscular control as well as a rapid fatigue of the neuromuscular system in the sense of a frequency drop.

Description

The Foot Tapping test requires alternated lifting and tapping of one foot after each other as fast as possible for a period of 15 seconds, resulting in a fast skipping movement performed on flat surface. Feet are only lifted slightly during tapping. Arms shall swing on the side of the body, forming roughly a 90° angle, to support the movement. The test poses high neuro-muscular stress on the lower extremities and includes beginning muscle fatigue. The main goal is to get as many foot taps as possible within 15 seconds.
